This angel appeared yesterday while I was standing in line at Safeway, giving the cashier money to pay for my weekly groceries. All of a sudden this beautiful woman insisted on paying my bill! I kept telling her that I had the money but she gave the cashier money. I was overwhelmed with her kindness and hugged her and asked her name. It was Heidi. So I know when one never expects it there are surprise angels who are total strangers who give you a gift.
At other times in my life I have had angels appear to me just when I was losing hope to drive all the way home on the parkway. A man came over to my car packed with two cats and all my bags and asked if he could help me overcome my fear of driving the rest of the way to my exit. I thanked him and followed him as I made my way safely back home to my mother’s exit.
Sometimes without planning things it seems to me certain people appear to deepen your faith in the goodness of people. It’s not just when you are ill or sad, it happens in the best of times too.
As the new year approaches I want to remember and honor all those women, men and children and dogs too who have given me laughter and a kind of love that awakens one’s heart.
To each of you who has given that gift of kindness this year I say thank you.
