Hal Glantz died peacefully in Seattle surrounded by loved ones on September 4, 2020.

He was born on April 21, 1931 to David and Anna Glantz in Wellington, Kansas and later moved with his family to California.

He graduated from Lodi High School in 1949 and the following year joined the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Everglades during the Korean War. In 1951, while stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Hal met and married Eve Snyder who was the “girl of his dreams.”

Hal and Eve relocated to several Navy ports including Baltimore, Norfolk, Charleston, and finally San Diego where they settled down to raise a family following Hal’s honorable discharge in 1954. Hal and Eve lived in San Diego until retiring to Port Townsend in 1996.

Hal was a master carpenter, cabinetmaker, and wood carver. He ran the woodshop aboard the USS Everglades and also had a long and very successful career in the lumber industry.

Hal also designed and built custom homes in Del Mar and Port Townsend. He was an avid swimmer participating on both his high school and Navy swim teams. He loved to play golf and enjoyed watching sports, especially football. Hiking the Olympic Peninsula, fishing throughout Washington and Baja with his son, and traveling the U.S., Canada, and England with his wife were also some of his favorite adventures. Hal was a great friend and neighbor, hosting many holiday celebrations, and often volunteering his time and expertise to help others with their home projects.

Hal was a loving husband, devoted father and best friend to his only son, Dale, and daughter-in-law Lynn; and he was the ultimate Grandpop to his only grandchild, Chelsea Glantz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished wife of 67 years, brothers Clarence, Ervin, and Orlan, sisters Helen Leach and Clara Piazza, brothers-in-law John and Robert Snyder, and nieces Arlene Geddis and Donna Sassman. In addition to his immediate family Hal is survived by his sister-in-law, Mitzie Snyder, and his beloved Sacramento area family including nephews Orlan (Carol) and Jerry (Lil) Glantz, Tom Leach; and nieces Deanna Glantz and Barbara Kreps. He is honored and will be missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life is being planned for April 2021.
