Habitat for Humanity accepts applications

Posted

Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County opens its homeownership application period for individuals and families interested in purchasing a home, beginning April 3 and closing May 15.

Interested applicants must meet three basic eligibility requirements. Applicants must be in need of decent and affordable housing; demonstrate fiscal responsibility and the ability to repay an affordable mortgage; and be willing to invest between 250 to 400 hours of sweat equity in building a home.

Additionally, those accepted into the program participate in educational classes that prepare individuals for successful homeownership.

Habitat plans to build 10 homes in the Port Townsend and Port Hadlock-Irondale areas. The size and style of homes are to be determined based on the applicants accepted to be habitat homeowners, ensuring the homes meets applicants’ needs.

Habitat EJC is hosting online applicant orientations which provide information about financing, home sizes, and options, and program timeframes. To learn more about the Habitat for Humanity EJC homeownership process and register for an orientation, visit habitatejc.org/homes.
