Twenty-one ladies with the Discovery Bay Women’s Club and Port Townsend Women’s Club came out to the golf course in Discovery Bay to take part in the annual Memorial Golf Tournament.

The event celebrates and honors the members of either golf club who have passed away over the years.

Prior to the tournament, women from both clubs competed in a putting contest, with Linda Deal beating Jane Guiltinan in a head-to head play off to earn the victory.

As for tourney play, the format was a three-person team scramble for nine holes on the course.

The top team, consisting of Cindy Breed, Dee Sweeney, and Lynn Pierle of the Discovery Bay Club, won  with a net score of 23.6. In second place with a net score of 27 were Barb Aldrich, Jody Stone, and DeeDee Schreier. Barely missing out on the silver spot after tallying a 27.4 net score were Wanda Synnestvedt, Donna Brown, and Vicki Young.

After the top placing teams were awarded their cash prizes, the golfers enjoyed box lunches provided by the newly-opened restaurant — owned by Rick Unrue — at the Port Townsend Golf Course.

While this year’s Memorial Golf Tournament was hosted at the Discovery Bay Golf Course, the two women’s clubs alternate hosting, so 2023’s tourney will be held at the Port Townsend Golf Course.

To further honor past women that belonged to the Port Townsend Women’s Club, a bench was recently installed on the Port Townsend Golf Course in remembrance of mother-daughter golfers Naomi Marcus and Janie Marcus.

Additionally, Barbara Bailey, Helen Graves, Sue Simmons, JoAnn Zeller, Mary Norwood, Vivian Chapin, and Arlena Brown were all honored at the Memorial Golf Tournament.
