The annual Jumping Mouse Turkey Trot 5k kicked off Nov. 23 at the Larry Scott trailhead in 40 degree weather. Kids were doing jumping jacks to stay warm waiting for the one mile kids fun run to begin. Winners of the fun run received free pizza coupons donated by Pizza Factory and winners of the 5k race categories received pies donated by Pane d’Amore Bakery. Pictured above, Port Townsend City Manager John Mauro takes off from the starting in the 5k race. Mauro won the male 18 to 44 brackett and had the second place overall time behind Nathan Cantrell, a runner in the 13 to 18 male bracket. The 5k race had 158 participants and 23 kids nine-years-old and under participated in the fun run. Jenny Manza, executive director of Jumping Mouse, said this is a record number of participants with 50 more than last year. The event raised $7,335 for Jumping Mouse and their childrens’ therapy services. Maza said the organization hopes to raise a total of $60,000 in their end of the year campaign.
