Shoppers crowded the Uptown core Saturday as the Port Townsend Farmers Market kicked off its 33rd season

The 33rd season of the Port Townsend Farmers Market debuted mightily on Saturday, April 5, with a ribbon cutting, a goat parade, live music and an increase in vendors. 

Open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the market on Tyler Street brought crowds of shoppers hoping to get their first taste of spring. 

Smiles beamed on the faces of just about everyone meandering through new and returning vendors on what seemed to be the first sunny, 60-degree day of the year.

This year’s market boasts nearly 80 vendors, with 70 returning and 10 making their debut, said Amanda Milholland, the Jefferson County Farmers Markets executive director. 

The crowd was a good sign for plans to reinstate mid-week hours of the market after four years. Wednesday markets will begin June 4 and run from 3 to 6 p.m.  

It was also a good sign for the 17th season of the Chimacum Farmers Market, which is opening in May this year instead of June. Kicking off on May 4, the market will run on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chimacum Corner Farmstead.
