Gerene Janice Hostvedt, daughter of Gerald J. Thompson and Irene R. Thompson (Stringer), named after the combination of their first names, Gerald and Irene, passed away the morning after her emergency room admittance for breathing difficulty, dizziness and heart issues at the age of 79.

She was born at the St. John’s Hospital in Port Townsend, Washington on June 20, 1945, and graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1963. She served as the Rhododendron Queen for the 28th Annual Rhododendron Festival held in 1963.

She is survived by her 3 children, Kathleen Lynn (Shattuck) Whittlesey, Michael Shannon Gardner and Thomas Dale Hostvedt. Her surviving family includes her two brothers, James Donald Thompson and Michael Keith Thompson and Thomas Ryan Thompson who proceeded her in death.

After her final divorce, she lived with her youngest son Thomas Hostvedt and his wife, Elizabeth Joy (Smith) Hostvedt in Algona, Washington with their 2 children. A viewing ceremony was held at the Klontz Funeral Home in Auburn, Washington with the immediate family on the 19th of March and her remains will be cremated.
