Gale warning issued for West End

The National Weather Service office in Seattle has issue a gale warning for the Washington Coast.

The warning will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22.

South winds of 25 to 35 knots — with gusts to 45 knots — and seas of 12 to 15 feet at 14 seconds have been forecast.

The National Weather Service said strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

A gale warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Officials noted that operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. The National Weather Service recommends that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
