Jefferson County Emergency Management began delivering N95 masks to locations throughout the county late last week, and officials said a total of 7,480 masks have been distributed.
“Wearing the right kind of mask is one of the most important things we can do to stop the spread of the virus,” said Emergency Management Director Willie Bence. “Along with social distancing, airflow, and getting vaccinated, these are our best tools.”
The masks are available to community residents upon request, and distribution locations include the Tri-Area Food Bank (760 Chimacum Road),
Port Hadlock Library (620 Cedar Ave.), the QFC grocery in Port Hadlock, the QFC in Port Townsend, and the Safeway grocery in Port Townsend.
Masks were also taken to Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and distributed to area businesses. Contact the chamber at 360-385-7869 for a list of businesses where masks are available.
More masks are being ordered and will be distributed to additional food banks and other locations when they are received.
Late last Friday, Washington State DOH Deputy Secretary Lacy Fehrenbach announced the state is currently out of COVID tests.
People can continue to place their orders, however, which will be filled when new supplies arrive.
To order free home test kits, go to COVIDtests.gov or www.sayyescovidhometest.org. For those who do not have access to the internet or have language limitations, orders are also being taken through the DOH’s COVID-19 hotline at 1-800-525-0127.
