A 39-year-old man injured in a car accident and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center last week has been identified as Sky Hardesty-Thompson.

Hardesty-Thompson was one of three candidates who ran in the Primary Election for a Port Townsend City Council position this year. It was Hardesty-Thompson’s first foray into politics.

He was injured in a three-vehicle collision just before 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19 on West Sims Way near Boat Haven.

A woman driving a black Ford Escape said she was approaching the stoplight headed east when Hardesty-Thompson’s blue Chevrolet Astro van veered toward her, sideswiping her car and tearing off the bumper before leaving the roadway and hitting a poplar tree on the Boat Haven side of Sims Way.

Emergency personnel from East Jefferson Fire Rescue were on the scene by around 8:40 a.m. The van was totaled in the crash.Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident, said Port Townsend Police Chief Thomas Olson.

Olson said Hardesty-Thompson has since been reported in stable condition.
