Firefighting-themed First Friday Speaker Series kicks off

Posted

Partnering with East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Jefferson County Historical Society’s First Friday Speaker Series resumes with “Wildland Firefighting with Amanda Monthei.”

Monthei will share her experience on a hotshot crew in the Pacific Northwest, discussing the rapidly changing conditions due to climate change and ever-increasing fuel loading.

She is a writer, podcast host, angler, skier, and former wildland firefighter.

Set for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, the speaker series coincides with East Jefferson Fire Rescue’s 150th anniversary celebration this month. The October event with Monthei, November’s “Fire Prevention with Jordan Pollack,” and “Traditional Ecological Knowledge in Fire Ecology and Management with Dr. Ernesto Alvarado” in December will all highlight speakers with extensive knowledge and experience around various aspects of fire.

Tickets are free, though the suggested donation is $10. People can register for the event at simpletix.com/e/october-first-friday-speaker-series-progra-tickets-115570.
