Eight new COVID-19 infections found in Jefferson County

Eight more residents have tested positive for COVID-19, Jefferson County health officials reported Wednesday.

The new cases pushed the total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Jefferson County to 654.

A total of 14 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the county since Monday.

Of the eight new cases, positive COVID test results were reported across the county; four in Port Townsend, two in the mid-county area, and two in south county.

The new cases were evenly split by gender; four of the new infections involved females, and the other four involved males.

One resident in their 20s tested positive, as did four residents in their 30s, one resident in their 40s, one in their 50s, and one in their 70s.

A total of 41 residents were still in isolation Wednesday due to potential COVID-19 contact.

There have been 28,952 tests for COVID-19 in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic, and 28,298 have resulted in negative results.

New test results from 139 residents were received Wednesday.

In Jefferson County, 517 people have recovered from COVID-19 and 42 people have been hospitalized for the disease. (People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.)

Four deaths of Jefferson County residents have been linked to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
