Egregious behavior with postal delivery | Letter to the editor

I’d like to address the rampant mail theft in the area. Notably, Cape George Colony.

We purchased a locking mail box after being robbed of who knows what in early November. Then, right before Christmas, I received a “non-deliverable” card, which had obviously been slit open (only across the seal). At the same time, five other cards came back, ripped up.

Yesterday, I went to my locking mailbox, and my package had been carefully slit open at the bottom. Thankfully, what was in there was apparently of no use to the thieves.

I did talk with a postal worker at the post office - in person - who denied my flat-out obvious evidence of an “undeliverable” card being tampered with. How else could anyone get to it, aside from a postal worker if it was undeliverable?

I’m not at all blaming the couple who delivers here. But there is some egregious behavior going in at USPS. I have no idea where in the country that this is happening. I order from all over the place.

What I’d like to know is: Why doesn’t the post office and the police coordinate efforts to find these people?

I mean, if you find 10 pounds of mail stuffed in a trash can or two (which happened to my mail), why not report that? Take some fingerprints? Instead, it’s pretty much, “Sorry, dude.”

I’ve talked with both institutions. I got brushed off by both — albeit nicely. I don’t know if it’s lack of funds, but this is getting really irritating, especially if it’s coming from within the USPS. The worst part of it is, it’s my word against theirs.
I suppose I must start filming as I open every package.
