Fort Worden Historic State Park is seeing a recent re-expansion of its dining options.
The Taps bar and kitchen at the Guardhouse Neighborhood Pub in Building 300 has posted public signage promising to open in early June, while the management of the Cable House Canteen on the beach confirmed their plans to extend their customer service periods.
According to Austin Burnett, who also serves as operations manager of the Olympic Tours business that he’ll also be running, the Canteen’s menu items are currently limited while they wait for necessary permits, but shortly after Memorial Day, he expects the Canteen to shift from Wednesdays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., to being open seven days a week.
Burnett added that the Canteen’s menu will eventually grow to serve fried and grilled items.
“Our kitchen is currently closed, so right now, we’re mostly serving snacks and making sandwiches,” Burnett told The Leader. “Once we get the permitting done, we plan to serve soft-serve ice cream, burgers and fries, fish and chips, and other simple beach food fare.”
Burnett plans to operate Olympic Tours out of the same space so that prospective customers can ask about kayak rentals and tours from Fort Flagler.
“We’re just excited to be going into the summer season,” Burnett said. “We’re expecting this should be a fun year.”
