Dmitri Matheny Group at Cellar Door
Award-winning flugelhornist returns
to Port Townsend October 8

“Dmitri Matheny is a jazz treasure. The lyrical Matheny has impressive chops, but it’s his warmth and soulfulness that win you over.” —All Music Guide

The Dmitri Matheny Group features Milo Petersen on guitar, Phil Sparks bass, Mark Ivester drums and the leader on flugelhorn.

“An all-star jazz band featuring some of the most accomplished musicians in the western United States,” writes All About Jazz, “the Dmitri Matheny Group is a cohesive and seamless unit, serving up equal parts soulful expression, caressing phrases, imaginative asides, and dedicated lyricism.”

The OaklandTribune agrees: “Their music is a fertile landscape without boundaries, earning Matheny and his cohorts a reputation as one of the most eclectic and daring ensembles on today's jazz scene.”

American musician Dmitri Matheny was recently voted “NW Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year” in Seattle’s Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards, and has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music). An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dmitri Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal international following, releasing eleven CDs and touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The San Francisco Chronicle calls Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”
