People critical of President Donald Trump lined Sims Way on Saturday, April 5, rallying to protest the administration’s barrage of policies and actions on immigration, the economy and cuts to government agencies and departments with the help of Elon Musk.

The “Hands Off!” demonstration, one of about 1,300 in all 50 states nationwide, was organized by Indivisible Port Townsend. Gina McMather, leadership team chair for Indivisible Port Townsend, said images captured by a drone enabled an estimate of 1,600 people.

Whatever the number, they were young and old, even some in wheelchairs.  Sidewalks were packed, with layers of protesters commiserating and singing patriotic songs like “America the Beautiful” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Protesters’ signs showed they attended for a variety of reasons. Signs were in abundance with things like “Dogs not Doge” and “Hands Off My Country” to “Elect A Clown Expect a Circus” and “Make America Normal Again.”

For about two hours, cars drove by the hundreds of people spread out on either side of the road, honking in support, some displaying their signs out of door windows or sunroofs.
