County treasurer is a tireless worker | Letter to the editor

Jefferson County Treasurer Stacie Prada is an outstanding elected official.

The responsibilities of the treasurer and her staff include banking, investments, revenue deposits, and revenue distributions. She does this not only for Jefferson County, but also for the many taxing districts and quasi-governmental agencies within the county’s borders.

I have been helping to solve financial accounting problems for one taxing district in the county. I’ve watched over the years as Stacie has tirelessly worked to improve banking relationships and improve investment communications.

But her biggest challenge has been the implementation of a new accounting system for the county. For months and months she has worked tirelessly with her staff and other county departments to bring that system online.

At the same time, our taxing district also implemented its own new accounting system. The system’s new banking features required considerable coordination with Stacie and her office. Even though this added to her already substantial workload, our working relationship has always been pleasant and cordial.

Stacie works hard. Before implementing any changes she carefully researches the myriad of laws, rules, and regulations that govern her office. And it is not unusual to note that her emails have been sent well past normal working hours and often on weekends.

The citizens of Jefferson County should be proud to have elected Stacie Prada as county treasurer.
