The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 218 calls for service between Saturday, Dec. 18 and Friday, Dec. 24. Below are selected reports.

At 6:51 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 in Quilcene, dispatchers were notified of an assault.

A caller reported a reckless driver; he had been driving and a speeding driver came up behind him. The caller said he had tapped his breaks, but the driver followed him to the store, got out of his vehicle, and started yelling at him.

The driver was drunk, the caller said. He tried to calm him down, and even offered to shake his hand, but the other driver told him to “Come up the mountain and fight me, [slur]!” The man made several similar comments, then put an elbow into the caller’s chest. He then got back into his vehicle and drove off. The caller provided authorities with a photograph of the man’s license plate.

The suspect was known to authorities for previous incidents, and his behavior was described as “typical” for him.

The caller did not wish to pursue charges.

At 12:12 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported suspicious activity in the Market Street area. A woman said her daughter heard very loud, high-pitched screams in the area.

A deputy checked the area and talked to several residents but could not find the source of the sounds. A foot patrol was also conducted.

At 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 in Port Hadlock, a person who was out of town reported a burglary. She said she saw something suspicious on her live-feed camera that looked like two people trying to break in through a window.

The caller was contacted and said no one had physically tried to enter her home. She had seen two people walking on Cedar Avenue, and not in her backyard.

It was believed the person seen on the camera was a deputy checking the area after an earlier call about a burglary.

At 1:07 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 in Forks, a caller said someone came to the home and started a fight with the caller’s mother.

Two calls were received, and dispatchers were told a friend’s girlfriend had come over. She was drunk and tried to choke the caller.

The other caller said he didn’t know anything and refused to give any information, then hung up.

Officers from the Hoh Tribe and the sheriff’s office responded. The assailant was gone when officers arrived.

The person was found two hours later on the Lower Hoh Road. A vehicle had rolled over, and the reporting party said one person needed aid and another occupant of the vehicle was passed out and unresponsive on the side of the road.

The other person in the car had neck and back pain.

The driver was contacted at the hospital and a blood draw was taken.
