Collage artist Harold Nelson will be the guest speaker at the upcoming meeting of the Port Ludlow Art League, the group has announced.
Nelson is known for his extraordinary collages. Each begins with pieces of magazine paper, and Nelson progressively incorporates smaller bits of paper with a matte gel adhesive. His process is gradual, intuitive, and improvisational, resulting in dynamic, intriguing, and lively works of art.
The challenge of each collage is to assemble the elements into a cohesive piece. Vibrant colors are key to each piece, so Nelson makes sure the colors are balanced and harmonious and the finished collage packs enough visual interest to be enjoyed every time it’s viewed.
During the upcoming program, Nelson will show examples of his work and share insights into his process, methods, and materials.
The Port Ludlow Art League will meet online at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 on Zoom. Members and guests interested in the program should send an email to info@portludlowart.org by May 16 to register.
