Frequent users of the Mountain View Pool who purchased annual and six-month passes will have the expiration date of their passes extended in response to the months that the pool was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following a unanimous vote, the Port Townsend City Council authorized staff at the pool to extend the passes duration by as many months as each pass was rendered unusable during the closure.
As an example, given that the Mountain View Pool closed to visitors March 17, 2020, a pass that was due to expire June 1, 2020, will now be extended by three months from the pool’s reopening date (March 22) and will now expire June 22.
Staff have also refunded the value of passes at the owners’ request, but others who wish to simply extend their passes may do so.
Ahead of the council decision, Port Townsend Mayor Michelle Sandoval called the vote “pretty straightforward.”
“To me, this is what we want to do for our folks,” Sandoval added.
