Chimacum High to host pro wrestling fundraiser

Bring out the ring and get ready to rumble, because it’s almost pro wrestling time in Chimacum.

NorthWest Pro, a Port Orchard-based independent professional wrestling organization that started in 2013, is bringing action-packed fun this month with an event at Chimacum Junior/Senior High School.

Better yet, 40 percent of the event’s proceeds go to the high school’s Associated Student Body to help pay for prom.

“You can expect a lot of high-flying maneuvers, hard-hitting action, and some comedy,” said JD Mason, owner and booker for NorthWest Pro.

“It’s like a mini party; you get comedy and action and all sorts of different genres of entertainment,” he said.

Titled “A Night of Pro Wrestling,” the event is slated for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at Chimacum High at 91 W. Valley Road.

The bell time, or when the action starts,  is at 7 p.m.

Floor seats will cost $15 each and bleacher seats go for $10 per person.

There are also a couple personalities to watch out for in the ring, including Tae Kwon Bro and Darren Guin.

Dressed in a jiu-jitsu gi and ready for action, Tae Kwon Bro will be one to watch.

Don’t forget about Guin though, because the rising star has been honing his craft since he was a teenager.

“He’s been wrestling off-and-on over the past 10 years,” Mason said of Guin. “He’s a good kid; a little rock star.”

“He’s like Hot Rod but a little more intense,” Mason added, referencing the 2007 Andy Samberg film.

While the wrestling events typically take place at the Key Peninsula Civic Center in Vaughn, the idea for the special Chimacum show arrived after Mason had a conversation with school counselor Anthony Abastilla.

“He mentioned that the high school senior class wanted to raise money for prom, and were trying to get a boat for prom,” Mason said. “Anthony asked if we’d be willing to do a show at the school.”

Abastilla will also play the role of referee for the bouts, Mason said.

Whether it’s the fast-paced, flying action or the comedy or the skilled stunts, there is something to entertain just about everyone.

The main event is set to include chair shots, power slams, power bombs, and more, Mason said.

But at the end of the day, it’s about the kids.

“Forty percent of the gate goes straight to the Associated Student Body for prom finances,” Mason said. “Our goal is to sell out so the kids get the prom that they want.”
