Brotherton has a proven record | Letter to the editor

Greg Brotherton has outstanding qualifications to serve as the county commissioner representing District 3, and a proven track record that supports re-election.

He knows the district well, having served on the Quilcene School Board and as a Discovery Bay business owner. Greg has the personal skills to reach out and connect with constituents. He is both a listener and a doer.

I am most familiar with Greg’s commitment to address and make progress on the knotty problem on affordable housing — both for the homeless and for the workforce. He played a leadership role to find a constructive path forward to move the homeless encampment at the county fairgrounds to a permanent and supported facility on Mill Road.

When we read about the difficulties other communities are having addressing homelessness, we should take pride that our community committed the resources and implemented a plan that can serve as a foundation for further progress.

I would like to share an experience that demonstrates Greg’s personal commitment for affordable workforce housing. A valued member of the Quilcene community was informed that her long-term rental home was being put onto the market, and she faced eviction. It seemed possible that she might be able to purchase it if she could receive some financial assistance.

On short notice, Greg organized a group of citizens to support her. In the end, she was unable to purchase the home, but she had a good shot at it thanks to Greg.

I believe Greg does an excellent job of executing his responsibilities to both the county and his district. I strongly support his re-election for a second term.
