And with the stroke of a pen, the Brinnon Parks District was no more.
Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Keith Harper agreed to sign the petition for dissolution of the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation District No 2, last Friday after the district’s legal representative, Collette Kostelec explained that the district had done its duty in adequately informing the public of its intent to dissolve.
There were none in attendance, either in person or virtually, who spoke in opposition to the petition.
District officials voted to begin the dissolution process on July 22 after the district experienced an increased need for administrative oversight, coupled with rising costs that included an increase in insurance premiums for the small rural district, which is not funded by tax revenues.
Through its eight-year lifespan, the Brinnon Parks & Recreation District oversaw community events like ShrimpFest, youth programs, classes and community swim days.
Any funds remaining in the account of the Brinnon Parks & Recreation District will be transferred to an account owned by the Brinnon School District.
