Initial results show a levy for the Brinnon School District passed in a special election on Feb. 8.

426  Brinnon ballots were counted, according to the county auditor’s office, 299 in favor of the  levy,  passing Proposition 1. "No" votes numbered 127.  More ballots will be counted and processed later this week.

The two-year levy for educational programs and operations will replace an existing levy that's set to expire.

Prop. 1 will have an estimated levy rate of 92 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2023; followed by an estimated levy rate of 91 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2024.

In Brinnon, levy fees help pay for underfunded educational programs, as well as student counseling services, transportation, building improvements and repairs, fresh fruits and vegetables programs, among other priorities. Eighty students from kindergarten to eighth grade are enrolled in Brinnon Schools. During the last levy cycle, monies were put toward the site prep and installation costs for a new modular building and a ramp for a grant-funded middle school building, with $70,000 allocated for a new school bus.
