Brinnon fire district lauded in state review

Brinnon’s fire department has passed its latest state audit with a flawless performance.

State auditors released its accountability audit of Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 4 last week. 

In the audit, the Washington State Auditor’s Office said: “District operations complied, in all material respects, with applicable laws, regulations, and its own policies, and provided adequate controls over the safeguarding of public resources.”

Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 4 serves Brinnon and the surrounding area and is governed by a three-member board of commissioners.

The fire district had four employees and approximately 25 volunteers at the time of the audit, which covered the time span of Jan. 1, 2017 though Dec. 31, 2019. The district had operating revenues of $836,000, $714,000 and $625,000 in 2019, 2018 and 2017, respectively.
