Outage quickly fixed

At 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 11, Jefferson County Public Utility District crews responded to an outage in Port Townsend affecting roughly 1,325 customers, out of 20,482 tracked meters (6.47%) in Jefferson County, following reports of a structure fire and a wire down on San Juan Avenue.

By 6:45 a.m., the line crew was on site in Port Townsend, along San Juan Avenue and Tremont Street, as 1,336 customers were without power.

By 7:05 a.m., pole-mounted equipment failure and arching was determined to be the likely cause of the original structure fire report, as on-site crews continued to repair the downed lines in Port Townsend. By 7:35 a.m., the outage had been restored.

Mending workshops

The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is sponsoring five JeffCo Repair events, where individuals can bring their broken belongings to be repaired by local volunteers with various skills and knowledge. JeffCo Repair volunteers, working to divert personal possessions from the landfill, doing everything from rewiring floor lamps to mending torn fabric items. Workshop dates include Feb. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Quimper Grange in Port Townsend, March 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brinnon Community Center in Brinnon, April 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cotton Building in Port Townsend, April 26 from 12 to 3:00 p.m. at the Quilcene Community Center, and May 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Library. Individuals may bring two items each and must be present during the repair, but check to confirm items on the list. JeffCo Repair averages an 80.5% repair rate for belongings brought to events.     

 

PT OWL360 hiring

OWL360, whose stated mission is to support and empower young people, is looking to hire two open professional positions.

The marketing and communications manager would be expected to lead its outreach and engagement efforts, by elevating OWL360’s presence through social media management and developing connections with the community.

The case care coordinator of the Affordable Housing Program would be expected to serve as a guiding force for young adults navigating housing challenges, supporting individuals by providing resources, case management and advocacy.
