The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding will be operating a satellite classroom at the Port of Port Townsend’s Boat Haven Marina.
The port recently announced that it would re-negotiate a lease with Skookum as part of its effort to more efficiently use the space within its Nomura building.
The school will utilize the additional space resulting from the new lease.
“We’re excited about the boat school coming to Boat Haven and are hopeful that this expansion will be wildly successful in supporting existing and future marine trades,” said port executive director Eron Berg.
Betsy Davis, executive director of the school, noted that the lease will initially only be for a trial period.
“We are always looking at ways to enhance our students’ experience and will evaluate whether the satellite classroom builds more bridges between students and the tremendous wealth of knowledge held locally by the marine trades,” Davis said.
