The show will go on, after all.
“BILL EVANS 81!” has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 25.
The 90-minute performance (including an intermission) will feature contemporary dance, rhythm tap dance, and performance art choreography by Bill Evans, Don Halquist, and Claire Porter. Performers will be Evans, Halquist, Abbie Doll, Lauren Ehnebuske, Ashley A. Friend, Anna Hansen, and Camille Hildebrandt.
Composer/pianist Linda Dowdell will also perform in three of the works. Tapestry artist Judith Bird has created costumes for one of the show’s premiere works, “Sun’A’Do.”
The dance performance was originally scheduled for Aug. 14 in the Wheeler Theatre at Fort Worden, but the increase in COVID-19 cases forced Bill Evans and the Madrona MindBody Institute, who are co-producing the event, to seek a venue with better ventilation and socially-distanced seating.
The concert will now take place in JFK Hall, Building 246, and organizers noted the hall has many windows and doors that will be open for ventilation, and the venue provides ample space for socially-distancing up to 70 chairs for each performance.
All those who attend must wear well-fitting masks.
The Friday performance, and the 1:30 p.m. Saturday show, are already sold out, to people who previously purchased tickets. Madrona MindBody Institute will be contacting each ticket purchaser to ask which show they prefer to attend.
A third show is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 and will be a free or “pay what you wish” basis, thanks to support from the Port Townsend Arts Commission.
To reserve one or two seats for the 5 p.m. Saturday show, email billevansdance@gmail.com (subject line: September 25).
Event organizers said seats still available on the day of the performance will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis just before the show begins.
