Big opening planned for Chimacum Farmers Market

Posted

The Chimacum Farmers Market returns this weekend with its largest number of vendors ever.

Jefferson County Farmers Markets — the nonprofit that brings together small, Jefferson, and neighboring county farmers and other vendors — will open the 14th season for the market back in it’s original location: on the grass next to the Chimacum Corner Farmstand nursery and picnic area.

The market opens at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 5 with 30 participating businesses. It runs until 2 p.m.

Started by the Chimacum Grange in 2008, the market was adopted by Jefferson County Farmers Markets in 2010.

Market organizers noted there have been between 10 and 20 participating vendors over the years, with products ranging from fresh seasonal produce to pasture-raised meat, and sushi to pottery and jewelry.

This year, however, has seen notable growth at both the Port Townsend and Chimacum farmers markets, with more than 90 vendors between the two

Organizers said the growth is substantial after two seasons of reduced market size due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, a total of 65 vendors participated in the Port Townsend Farmers Market and 20 at the Chimacum Farmers Market, with no more than 40 coming to the Port Townsend market and 18 in Chimacum at a max.

New vendors at the Chimacum Farmers Market this year include:

• April Bederman (fiber artist);

• Brindled Farm (plant based indoor and outdoor decor);

• Colibri (personal and home care essentials from organic and handcrafted soaps and deodorants to solid shampoo bars);

• CR Green Farm (mixed produce, infused vinegars, plant starts and more);

• Erica Herbals (bath salts, tea, and soaks);

• Jeff Hart Photography (nature and landscape photos);

• Jamie’s Green Cuisine (plant-based nourishing dishes with unique ingredients and tons of flavor);

• Kodama Farm (fruit and vegetables and all-natural goat milk soap);

   The Mossy Fairy (uniquely crafted jewelry/accessories/gifts);

• Three Peas Farm (fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers);

• Seabeck Cellars (small-batch, hand-crafted wines made from the finest grapes in Eastern Washington);

• Sweet Blossom Bakery (plant-based, gluten-free cupcakes);

• Wild Rose and Clover (leather work); and

• Windwitch (Handmade leather and waxed canvas tool bags, tote bags, and other apparel).

Returning farmers include Red Dog, Creaky Knees, Duckabush Mushrooms, Foggy Hog, Avant Gardenz, and Goodness Tea; artisan food makers Pane d’Amore Artisan Bakery, High Country Doughnuts, Gypsy Coffeehouse, and Fiddlehead Creamery; and artists Turn the Potter, Coffee Jewelry, and Stryker Forge.

Live music will also return to the Chimacum Farmers Market, with grant support from the Jefferson County Lodging Tax.
