Barbara E. Stone, 84, passed away peacefully, and on her own terms, surrounded by loved ones on Saturday Nov 9, 2024 after a 5-year battle with breast cancer. Barbara was born in Eugene, Oregon on August 28, 1940 and spent her childhood on the family farm in Coburg. She graduated with a science degree from the University of Oregon in 1962 and went on to become a Medical Lab Technician. Moving to Port Townsend in 1974, she began a career at Jefferson General Hospital in the lab, where she made many lifelong friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Leone and Reese, as well as her sister, Joanne Hayzlett, by six days.

Barb lived a full and active life. Known for her boundless energy and adventurous spirit, Barbara took great joy in any and all outdoor or athletic endeavors. Constantly on the lookout for new and challenging activities, over the years she pursued everything from boat building to snowboarding to tap dancing- and everything in between. Her active life was on display in her passion for volunteer work as well. A dedicated volunteer, Barb gave tirelessly to numerous community activities. Jefferson Search and Rescue, the Food Bank, the PT library, Fort Worden, and more recently Habitat for Humanity were some of her favorites.

Barb’s welcoming personality, warm spirit, and compassion left a lasting mark on all who knew her. Her wanderlust spirit took her across the globe, where she embraced new cultures and formed friendships that transcended borders. She will be remembered by her family and loving friends for her open heart, zest for life, and the beautiful gardens she created at her home of 50 years on V street. Her memory will live on as a loving mother, grandmother, partner, and cherished friend and inspiring member of the community.

Barb is survived by her children, Christopher Stone (Cheanice), Heather Triplett (Damion) and her two step-sons, Eric and Steve Carr, along with her four grandchildren, Robbin, Blake, Xavier, and Melea. Her partner and confidant, Bob Tyre, shared with her a bond filled with hiking, travel, and countless memories from their many adventures together.

A celebration of her life will be held on August 29th, 2025 at the Chapel at Fort Worden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Habitat for Humanity continuing her legacy of giving back to the community she so dearly loved.
