Annual film festival announces 22nd season

In a mingling of in-person and virtual events, a hybrid Port Townsend Film Festival is back.

The 22nd annual fest launches Sept. 23 and continues through Oct. 3 with live screenings and online streaming.

“We have all missed each other so much,” said PTFF executive director Janette Force.

When it came to planning this year’s event, Force said: “No matter what else we can do, let’s make certain that we have movies on the street.”

Along with live ticketed showings at the American Legion Hall, free community films will be screened outdoors on Taylor Street downtown.

“I feel grateful that we can do our Taylor Street films free of charge so everyone gets to be included,” she added.

In offering a wide variety of programming and viewing options, Force described this year’s virtual events as “very accessible” and can be enjoyed not only in the community, but also across the globe.

The festival’s full program is packed with roughly 100 films.

Passes will be available for unlimited virtual viewing over the span of the festival, providing access to all films and filmmaker interviews. Single tickets for virtual films will also be for sale.

Some highlights of this year’s festival include:

“A Special Evening with Tom Skerritt,” a night to honor his career by streaming “East of the Mountains”;

A documentary feature, “Lily Topples the World,” welcoming special guest Lily Hevesh;

Another documentary feature called “Fanny: The Right to Rock”; and

An anniversary screening celebrating 20 years of “Legally Blonde” with screenwriter and Chimacum High School graduate Kristin “Kiwi” Smith.
