The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 93 calls between Friday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 30. Below are selected reports.

At 2:58 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, an anonymous caller reported that a car alarm was ongoing in the area of 33rd Street and Haines Street.

Officers arrived to discover the sound was a store alarm going off at the Safeway FastStop. The incident was caused by wind and is a recurring issue.

At 9:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 24, in the 500 block of Sheridan Street, a man was reported as a trespasser at a business. The caller said the man had left but was still in the parking lot.

The man was located on Sims Way, and asked by officers if he had been at the business. He said he had been trying to buy a soda and was subsequently arrested for trespassing.

At 4:06 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, an employee at Safeway reported that a man had stolen “a bunch of stuff,” which turned out to be a basket full of alcohol. The man threw the employee’s phone on the ground, but was not aggressive to the employee. The man was located nearby, and arrested for burglary, theft, and malicious mischief.

At 10:54 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, a driver said someone following them had revved their engine, ran a stop sign, and passed unsafely. Officers were told the vehicle was no longer in sight but was near Sheridan and Hastings streets. The caller was advised the vehicle could not be located.

At 12 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, officers gave a man who had been discharged from Jefferson Healthcare a ride to Port Hadlock.

At 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, a woman called to report teenagers outside who were yelling and swearing, but she didn’t have a visual.

At 9:02 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25,
a yelling man was reported near the Maritime Center. When officers found the man, they determined he was yelling at himself. He apologized and said he would move along. The man appeared to be under the influence.

At 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, a hit-and-run was reported in the vicinity of Highway 20 and Mill Road.

The caller said they believed the person who had rear-ended their vehicle had been drinking. The caller took a photo of the license plate, and city police were able to assist sheriff deputies in locating the vehicle.

The female driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.
