For this year's MLK Jr. Day of Service the Port Townsend Marine Science Center's AmeriCorp members will be facilitating a single-day 2.5 hr invasive weed removal project on January 20th, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM, with help from the Friends of Fort Warden and Washington Native Plant Society. Everyone participating will meet in the Port Townsend Marine Science Center museum portico in Fort Worden State Park at 10:00 AM. Parking is free in the park that day. Friends of Fort Warden will do a short presentation before we begin to show all volunteers how to identify which plants to pull. We will distribute tools and head out to the location as decided by Friends of Fort Worden. For this event we'll be pulling plants north of the pier. Volunteers can stay for as long or as short as they like, snacks and beverages will be provided. This is an all-ages event meant to bring the community together to make our slice of the Salish Sea region a more ecologically resilient place.
