I’ve heard excuses, excuses, and more excuses; rationalizations upon rationalizations, since this opinion column was published in the Port Townsend Leader. Enough is enough. If you are not vaccinated, and if you don’t have a verifiable medical or religious reason not to be, then you are now a Typhoid Mary or Harry. You are impeding upon my ability to safely travel, to go to a grocery store, to attend a concert or movie ( which I won’t unless the venue requires vaccination proof), to attend a sports game, to shop in a clothing store, to attend a festival, or any one of hundreds of activities that require human interaction.

Your supposed right to freedom is absolute nonsense. You have a moral obligation to protect those around you— your family, friends, fellow church goers, fellow teachers, fellow healthcare workers, fellow firefighters, fellow first responders, fellow police officers, fellow grocery workers and other front line workers, and the list goes on and on. The time has past for trying to rationalize with people who don’t have critical thinking skills, who don’t read juried literature, who live in a science-denial bubble. Now, because of your irrational fears, the EU may again ban Americans from European countries. Shameful! The 60+ percent of Americans who have been fully vaccinated need to assert our right to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The ignorance and intransigence of the unvaccinated is impeding the majority’s right to these absolutes.
