The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 192 calls for service between Saturday, Sept. 9 and Friday, Sept. 15. Below are selected reports.

 

At 1:09 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 in the 400 block of 12th Street, officers received a report of a dog in a hot car. The dog was in a crate, muzzled, for four hours. Though the windows were cracked, the car was in direct sunlight and no water was left for the dog. The dog was rescued and taken to the animal shelter.

 

At 4:17 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Jefferson County Airport, a caller reported hearing a crash and seeing a small aircraft down. Officers assisted on scene and found the aircraft made a hard landing. No injuries occurred, and there was only minor damage to the aircraft.

 

At 7:53 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at Point Hudson, a male subject forced his way into the event after security attempted to prevent him from entering based on previous information. The suspect was eventually located and arrested for assault in the fourth degree, criminal trespass in the second degree, and harassment.

 

At 2:09 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 at Jefferson Healthcare, a caller stated their vehicle was stolen sometime in the last four days. A stolen vehicle report was completed and an alert was sent to the law enforcement database.

 

At 11:34 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11 in the 1500 block of 19th Street, officers recovered the aforementioned stolen vehicle.

 

At 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the 1300 block of 48th Street, a caller reported a male subject shouting, cursing, and threatening to harm them. Officers arrived, developed probable cause, and arrested him. He was belligerent and uncooperative.

 

At 12:27 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the corner of Water Street and Tyler Street a hit and run accident was reported. The caller reported it happened four days prior, but had failed to report until requested by insurance. Officers noted that the paint transfer marks matched the color of a green utility box. No proof of hit and run.

 

At 4:09 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, officers received a report of a male screaming by City Hall. When he was contacted, the man refused to speak to them and walked away. Officers were familiar with the individual, who suffers from mental health issues. No crime was observed.

 

At 5:44 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 in the 1300 block of Water Street, a caller reported an intoxicated male was yelling, cussing, using racial slurs, and hit someone in the face. Officers developed probable cause and the suspect was located and arrested for assault in the fourth degree and criminal harassment.

 

At 4:19 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 in the 600 block of Rainier Street, officers observed a van parked in a business parking lot with items scattered around the van. One man had a handheld police scanner. A male in the van refused to identify himself, and another left upon the officer’s arrival. Two were warned about being on the business property after hours.

 

At 1:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 in the 800 block of Gaines Street, officers were called to the scene of people yelling. They contacted a male and female. The female gave a false name, but was recognized by the officers. She was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

 

At 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the corner of San Juan Avenue and 45th Street, multiple callers reported a vehicle accident where one of the drivers hit the other intentionally. The suspect was arrested for assault in the fourth degree.

 

Between midnight and 8:12 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15 officers conducted multiple traffic stops throughout the city for various violations.

 

At 1:42 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at the corner of 19th Street and Haines Street, an officer observed a vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic and the bicycle lane at various speeds. They developed probable cause for DUI. When the subject was arrested, their preliminary breath test was more than double the legal limit.

 

At 9:28 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 in the 300 block of Benedict Street, officers located a subject with a confirmed warrant and made an arrest.
