Emergency crews team up on vehicle recovery

At approximately 4 p.m. March 13, a vehicle was reported to have driven over a cliff on South Discovery Road. At least one occupant was ejected from the vehicle. The patient was transported to Jefferson International Airport via ambulance, then airlifted via helicopter to Harborview Medical Center.

Battalion Chief 13, Engine 6, Ladder 1, Medic 2, Engine 91, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Coast Guard responded to the call. South Discovery Road, between Cape George Road and Adelma Beach Road, was shut down shortly after Battalion Chief 13’s arrival.

Naval Magazine Indian Island crews and EJFR executed an extended technical rescue over the bluff, with assistance from a Coast Guard helicopter.

Indian Island security training exercise scheduled

Naval Magazine Indian Island has rescheduled a security training exercise to Thursday, March 21, near Port Hadlock. Training activities will occur near the pier’s security barrier with boats on the water. The exercise scenario will include the use of blank ammunition, loud sirens and bright blue flashing lights. Announcements will be broadcasted from the base’s loudspeaker notification system.

Residents living in the communities surrounding Indian Island and installation personnel could notice increased noise levels and activities associated with training activities. The Navy conducts these types of security exercises at installations across the world to ensure readiness and verify response procedures.
