Jefferson County Soccer Club hosted a successful District 4 President's Cup tournament for boys U13 and U15 teams last weekend involving 14 teams and 256 players.

Teams from Bainbridge Island, Silverdale, Poulsbo and Jefferson County competed with games played at Memorial Field downtown and at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum.

The event marked the end of the fall club recreational soccer season and determined age bracket champions, reported Kristin Berg, Jefferson County Soccer Club president. The winners advance to the state finals Dec. 8-9 in Olympia.

This fall the club sponsored eight teams and playing at the recreational level and one team playing at the select level - 134 total players.

Four club teams played in President's Cup events last weekend.

The JC Teal Tidal Waves played a girls' U11 tournament in North Mason and received the sportsmanship award. "It's an honor for a team to receive this award," noted Berg. "It speaks highly of the players, coaches and parents."

The JC United Boys U12 team, coached by Scott Charlton and John O'Brien, are District 4 champions and are making their second consecutive state tourney trip. The U12 boys played in South Kitsap. Jefferson beat the North Kitsap Rockets 7-1 and blanked the previously unbeaten Central Kitsap Fireslugs 3-0 on Saturday, and won the district title Sunday with a 3-0 win over the Central Kitsap Firehawks. JC United advances to first-round state play Dec. 1-2 in Battleground, with the final round in Olympia Dec. 8-9.

The JC Penguins hosted U13 competitors at H.J. Carroll Park. The local boys won 6-2 and 6-0 on Saturday, and won their semi-final game 1-0 but lost the title game 4-1 to the South Kitsap Blue Angels.

The U15 JC Eagles played at Memorial Field on Saturday and in Chimacum on Sunday. The team reached the semi-finals after a 0-0 tie and 9-2 loss on Saturday, but slipped 1-0 in the semi to a Bainbridge Island club.

While their older counterparts played in the President's Cup, members of a Jefferson County boys U10 team, coached by Matt McCleary, participated in a Soccer to the Maxx jamboree in Bremerton and had a great time, Berg said.
